The Economics of Effective Transitions – improving young people’s transitions through clearer pathways

This report is part of The New Economics of Education – a series modelling the economic benefits of recognising more of young people’s learning and capabilities in senior secondary education.

The Economics of Effective Transitions models the potential economic gains of implementing broader, trusted credentials that support clearer, more flexible learner pathways. It draws on national and international research to show how improving recognition in education can help young people find their way into work, further learning or training.

The modelling estimates that an individual young people could benefit by up to $27,200 per year between the ages of 21 and 30, with broader economic benefits of up to between $2.1 and $5 billion annually – driven by higher skills, lower unemployment and better job matching.

Economic modelling was conducted by Nous Group.
